4 stars In 1977, thirty-eight years ago, things had happened in 10cc, sad things. Two of the original members: Lol Creme and Kevin Godley had disappeared and created a project of their own called Godley & Creme. I will review their work too now because a half of a band is almost a band. But, 1977 Graham Gouldman and Eric Stewart were left, and these two brilliant musical minds carried on together with some other musicians such as the drummers Paul Burgess and Terry Bozzio, Del Newman who played strings, the pianist Jean Roussel and the pianist and oboeist Tony Spath. But here, just the two original guys were called the band and the other were the help musicians. Anyway, they created a lot of handsome music even without Godley & Creme that should be decribed now.

As well as before the music is a bit more complicated than usual pop music and there is a lot of humour in it together with fine musical ideas, wonderful melodies and vocal harmonies. The record consists of nine songs and the cover is an artistic thing with a diver's theme. The music is also pleasant in many ways. I have two favourites here. The absolutely best song is the longest "Feel the benefit-suite"(9/10) which contains lovely vocals, and a fantastic guitar solo as well as the whole composition which is so great. "Things we do for love" is a hit song with a wonderful melody and languorous singing(9/10). The lovely love song "People in love" does also the listener mute(8/10). My impression of the other songs is that there are many interesting och fine bits that don't really come up to the former 10cc standard but still are very recommended music. Favourites here are the funny "Honeymoon with B Troop"(7/10) and "I Bought a flat guitar Tutor"(7/10) as well as the heavy song with nice vocals "Good Morning Judge"(7/10) and "You've got a cold"(7/10). The two remaining tracks are nice but not very interesting.

My opinion about the remaining 10cc line up and especially this album "Deceptive Bends", the band's fifth is that it's a melodic and joyful album I listen to with a big smile in my face. The music isn't as perfected and interesting and multilateral as we know 10cc from their three earlier efforts. But the splendor wasn't broken and I look forward to review Bloody Tourists. My song to song rating ends att 3.67 which means this becomes a four star record.

Best tracks: Feel the benefit, Things we do for love, People in love
