3 stars After hearing DOOMSDAY AFTERNOON, I ran out and got anll other Phideaux that I could find. I was expecting a lot from THE GREAT LEAP, being that it was the previous album to DOOMSDAY and had a cover similarity. But... the similarity ends there. DOOMSDAY was a masterpiece and my favorite album from the 2000's so far. THE GREAT LEAP falls far short in all ways- not as interesting conceptually, way-less proggy, and just plain uninteresting. The only tracks here I listen to are "Wake Up" and "One Star"! The rest just has never grabbed me. This album plays more like an average neo-prog-new-wave set than Phideaux's much better work to come. DOOMSDAY AFTERNOON was an easy 5 star effort. Here we have a 3 star. This is not bad, but, like most Phideaux listeners, I encountered his best first. Kind of like hearing WISH YOU WERE HERE and then buying THE FINAL CUT- a letdown. I find myself listening to other Phideaux much more such as FIENDISH, before I consider putting this one on.
