4 stars Ok here we have the one Genesis man who really keeps his music progressive!!! His first album, Voyage of the Acolyte (for what I understand also his best) brings familiar sounds a la Genesis but also some new ones, specially in the instrumental pieces. Technically speaking Hackett plays a much bigger role than in Genesis here (well...doooh...) and his playing is also "better" so to say than in Genesis albums. Now...the songs

Ace of Wands : For me, along with Shadows of the Hierophant, the best song from the album. A guitar driven instrumental with numerous breaks, here Hackett is just fantastic, as well as Collins, excellent work from both!!!

Hands of the Priestess part I : This one of the many acoustic songs...nice, short, nothing spectacullar but it helps to bring a sort of acoustic mood to the album. Nice.

A Tower Struck down : This song (although its 30 years old) sounds quite futuristic heheheh... No really, its again an instruemntal, with an odd timing and some weird sounds. An other good one!!!

Hands of the Priestess part II : In the same line as the first part this one brings some mellotron passages.

The Hermit : First non instrumental song, Hacketts sings here. Well...he aint no Gabriel, but it doesnt ruin the song...again an acoustic piece.

Star of Sirius : I hate to say what others have said so many limes...but, I have to...this is th Genesis song Genesis never did...in a way, because the bass and drumms, as in all other songs, are played by band mates Rutherford and Collins...but here Collins also sings. It has a completly Genesis sound and feeling...but itīs Hackett alone...well, almoust...

The Lovers : Another mellow acoustic song...nice as all the others, but they dont really grap that much of atention...

Shadow of the Hierophant : Sad is beatifull...and few songs prove it so well...really, really beatifull song, with some nice female vocals...and mellotron parts!!! This kind of songs are the ones latter bands like Mostly Autumn would take as inspiration for thei work. One of the best colser ever!!!

All in all the album is great, really great...not quite a masterpiece, but itīs not that far away...
