CRIME OF THE CENTURY

I grew up with Supertramp my whole life. My family always listened to their Greatest Hits album (which has 6 of the 8 songs on here) and I know all of the songs word for word. I never thought of it as prog (since I never heard the term "prog" until a few years ago), but it certainly is more sophisticated than regularly pop or rock music. Most of the songs have catchy choruses to sing along to, but also have great instrumental sections. My personal favourites are "School", "Rudy", and "Crime of the Century", but I love all the songs. When I first listened to the album (therefore listening to "Asylum" and "If Everyone Was Listening" for the first time), I was quite impressed. I was expecting them to be worse (because they didn't make it onto the Greatest Hits album) but they match up very well to the other songs. I think the lyrics to some of the songs are very interesting too (for example "Hide in Your Shell"). Supertramp have a great balance of catchy lyrics and great solos. It makes their music easy to like, but it has a lot more depth then the average pop song. They're a great place to start for those new to prog.

Supertramp's best album, a masterpiece of crossover prog! Certainly worth the money to buy it!
