Progressive Biography

RPI. Rock Progressivo Italiano. Yes, it is a real sub-genre.

"So it's an established fact that in Italy during the period between 1971-1974, a music movement existed where bands would challenge each other to see who could be the most imaginative, who could create the album for the ages. They were all painters and sculptors just as in Renaissance Italy." [Tom Hayes]

You will never regret discovering the Italian progressive rock scene of the 1970s. It's been a pleasure to help a few of you do just that.

Personal bio...

I grew up in an amazing time/place that America will not see again unfortunately. I'm into vintage photography and can thank my Grandfather for that. He loved to drive around as a young man and snap photos, amassing an impressive view of mid century Americana. I'm also into writing about family and the observations of my life. The more I see of the present, the more I believe the 30 years following WW2 were our finest hour.

Music is an important passion and escape. It has been a huge part of my life since childhood and it remains so today. I need music in my life. From the simplest pop songs of my youth to hard rock, metal, and modern progressive, I need it all. Our world is in such a dire place. We've turned our backs on common sense and squandered what we were given by the "greatest generation." We've seen a collapse of character, wisdom, and humility in the decades since. I often wonder what happened to the spirit and ethics of my parents and grandparents generations. I wonder what we can do to reverse some of the insanity of today's culture. Probably very little. Which is where the music comes back into play. For inspiration, for release, for therapy, for joy. An essential elixir to be sure.

After 6 years and 1000+ reviews to the ProgArchives database I have retired from active collaboration to pursue other interests, though I still help with updates where I can. A special thanks is due the many good colleagues who helped make the site what is is today. It was a great experience overall and I hope that some of my work here will benefit our music fans. I also encourage you to get involved with the site if you have a good knowledge of progressive rock. You can have an adventure here if you commit to working hard and sharing your love of music.

Best wishes and luck always,

To those key people in my life who have now passed, I thank you and love you. You won't be forgotten.
