Progressive Biography

Well, I think I've been profileless for long enough. So now, I present to you the closest thing to an autobiography I will ever write.

My story is relatively uninteresting. I was birthed, I breathed, I did normal human things. One day, post funeral, my uncle let me listen to three records. The first was a swing album, which I still love to this day. The second was King Crimson's Discipline. I don't think I understood it, I don't think I recognized its power. But I was extremely interested in it. It sounded like nothing I've heard before. (As I side note the third was King Crimson's The ConstruKction Of Light.) I only listened to the whole thing once, but it stuck with me. Months later, in a local Best Buy, this curious number came back into my head. I purchased it that evening. Once again, it hit home somehow and became the record that dominated my listening habits. My progressive rock journey was beginning.

After that, the same uncle let me listen to various other prog-rock acts, such as Genesis, Gentle Giant, Frank Zappa, Kayak, UK, Brand X, Dice, Miriodor, Spock's Beard, and hosts of others that escape my mind right now. Most of these stuck with me through the years, and many became favorites of mine. However, once I bought that King Crimson album I was on a quest of my own. Soon after I purchased more King Crimson albums amd eventually acquired many of the classics, Pink Floyd, ELP, Yes, Jethro Tull, and the like. At a later date, I searched the all mighty and powerful internets for prog radio (real radio...not online crap). It lead me to this site. I've yet to findthis prog radio, but I have found a wonderful home for my internet travels. I joined the forums about a month or so after finding the site, and quickly and not so quietly built up my post count. Without this site, I would not have found many of the bands I love today nor would I know as much as I do (which I never said was alot...but its something). A gigantic thank you to everyone at this site, and especially to its founders and creators. *hug smiley*

But now, furthermore into the furnace. Broken canes are not tobacco, however, a flavorful sauce they will make. Flowing gently the kittens will provoke violent protest underneath a faucet for tapestries. Nevermore will unrest be restful or contrite. Immolation begins on Thursdays, 8:00 sharp. To avoid confusion we can take you all down in the supernova, but the thyme isn't ready for picking. Sadly I molt away from the sand in the air. Intrinsic I argue? Nay beat the horses, and drink up for the ball will plummet. We can have good seats for the universe over on avenue B. East of Biloxi? South of Merakesh. Ah...so the tulips bloomed uneven. My hat. How dare you insinuate such pastries. This mutton won't do...please return to your yogurt desires, I care not to be askew. Such rebellion in your loins, this will make an excellent prison. I'll saunter silently past the nebula. Spill the canvas, perpetuate the system's oeuvre.

Anyway, my musical habits are always in a state of flux. Progressive material is always at the forefront though. Lately I've been favoring the experimental and the avant-garde (which have always been near the top of my listening pleasure). Overall though my favorite progressive rock genres include: RIO/Avant prog, Symphonic, Jazz-rock/Fusion, Eclectic prog, and Post Rock. But I enjoy most of the ones I have albums from. As for favorite bands: (Top 5 in order, then chaos) King Crimson, Frank Zappa, Soft Machine, Van Der Graaf Generator, Henry Cow, Gentle Giant, Jethro Tull, Genesis, Robert Wyatt, Magma, Univers Zero, Negura Bunget, Agalloch, Yugen, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Spock's Beard, Peter Hammill, Chris Cutler, John Zorn, Brand X, Far Corner, Guapo, Happy The Man, Taal, Bill Bruford (and anything related)...I could go on, but I'd leave out good stuff. Besides, I'd list 94% of the bands I like so it would be fruitless. And thanks to this site, the list will most likely keep increasing. Aside from progressive musics, I enjoy many other styles of music. My philosophy is as long as the musics good, I'll give a listen.

I could say more, but I won't. Maybe one day I'll return to augment. Until then, travel safe.
