My name is Assaf Vestin. I was born in France in 1977. When I was 4 years old, my parents moved to Israel (and naturally I followed) and lived there for 25 years during which I met this girl who would be my wife. We are now living in NY, USA for the next 5 years. After that, we're not sure yet...

My relationship with music began when I was about 5 and when my father and brother kept listening to those vynil records my parents collected. There were classical compositions and then some rock albums. Three of them I liked in particular. They were Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here, Animals and Meddle. WYWH especially struck me as one of the most beautiful pieces of music I heard (was not much back then, but still). And from then on it evolved like in many other personal stories you might have heard.

I have several roles here in PA:

1. I created and led the Discographies Team (DET) in PA and along with great fellows (Memowakeman, Geck0, ProgBrazil and Rivertree), the team is doing a whole databse sweep of discographies in search of incomplete discographies. As more bands are being added, the responsibility is on the adding member to add all albums. In any case, any member can add albums to the database, or can contact one of the team to do so and provide the needed info. Due to time constraints and other duties in PA, I have left the team in the trusting hands of Memo.

2. My other role was being part of the RIO/Avant/Zeuhl team and I was also part of the Prog Metal team, doing band additions and clearing bands for addition. You are welcome to PM me with suggestions of bands for these genres and I'll forward it to the teams to vote on. If you see a band that is cleared for addition on our voting charts on http://progtology.com/home/progarchives.xhtml and you want to add it, then write a bio with your own words, and send it to me with a picture (jpeg) of the band and your name and I'll add it and credit it to your name at the end of the bio in the band's page. If you can also send the discography info, it'll be graetly appreciated (track list, lineup and cover art).

3. I also add bands in other genres as well and suggest to other teams bands that should be added in their genre. So far, I added bands in almost every genre in PA, and have suggested bands for almost all other genres as well.

4. Another task I have undertaken is contacing bands/musicians in order to let them be aware of PA and also conduct interviews, if they are willing to do so. So far I have done interviews with Sympozion, Dave Murray (Deserts Of Traun), Gecko's Tear and Panzerpappa. More are in the process of making.

For bands/labels, I'm open to review your albums. Provided the band is on PA, I can post the review here. Other than that, I also review for two other websites: Progressive Ears.com and Sonic Frontiers.net.

I try to learn as much as possible from other people here about obscure bands (from all genres) and in turn I give recommendations about my favourite bands and musicians. If you are interested in recommendations for music (of all genres), feel free to PM me. I'll send you a list with short descriptions and when possible samples. If I can't help you, I'll point you out to someone who can.

Should you have any question, request or problem while visiting PA, you are welcome to PM me and I will try to help you. If you are looking for online vendors to buy prog albums, you can PM me for places to buy. I buy almost entirely at online stores and I have a big list of these, both in the US and in Europe (and some in Australia and Japan).

Aside from that, my musical preferences are practically unlimited (from the most popular type through the most weird/avantgarde to the noisiest possible). I like all sorts of music from all genres and styles. So any recommendation you might have, I am glad to hear it. I am also more than happy to share my knowledge, so don't hesitate to ask, and if I have the answer, I'll let you know and if not, I'll try and refer you to someone who can.
