5 stars This album is the one that marked or define Pineapple Thief's style. Even though the style didn't vary much from the first two albums, Variations on a Dream is more serious, better developed, more conscious, deeper in feelings. If Pineapple Thief is in the archives, it is because their style surpasses any pop or alternative sound (compared to the Smashing Pumpkins at times). Variations on a Dream is a conceptual album and the production is excellent in both albums (the original and the remix, by the way, I have both). If you are looking for a heavier complex sound, I think there are many bands in this page that should not be here, but if the experts consider Pineapple Thief, a progressive band, I do too. I love the album, and from this album and on, The Pineapple Thief have created intelligent emotional music.
