4 stars Who knew that Eskimos could be even weirder than Residents?

I hadn't heard the original album before I picked up this DVD, but I suspect fans of the album will want to rush out and get this. It's been re-mixed for 5.1 surround sound with 25 minute of additional material in the form of "Easter eggs".

The music here is fairly bleak and really seems to capture the feel of living in an arctic environment. All the visuals and animations were made new for this DVD. There's even some vintage film footage clips from a 1922 movie called Nanook (don't eat the yellow snow, ha ha).

This DVD has the rather unique quality of being something that would have both appeal to those fans of the weird and avant-garde and those who are interested in a documentary of sorts of the Eskimo culture, a way of life that is now largely in the past and fading faster than the ice caps these days.

An absolutely chilling release! Might actually cool you off on a hot summer's day or drive you to suicidal depression on a bleak winter's one.
