"Embrace" was the debut EP from Crossover artist Maid Myriad, who hail from the Akron Ohio area. The band refers to their sound as "kaleidoscope" rock and note such musical influences as Smashing Pumpkins, Mars Volta, and Foo Fighters among many others. They personally remind me of other Crossover artists I've reviewed such as The Tea Club (General Winter era) and The Addiction Dream.

Heavy and driving, Maid Myriad's debut was energetic with elements of alternative rock, post-punk, and progressive pop. This is a solid debut of five expertly crafted tracks in the 4-6 minute range. They have a heavy chugging guitar style and often bellowed vocals that recall the Foo Fighters but with a more Tea Club sense of passion and artistry. Klemm's voice is very strong and forceful but capable to instantly switching to soft falsetto with great control. Despite a bit (not much) of rough edge to their sound this is a viciously tight band, they kill every track. They possess a real talent for dynamics and catchy songwriting, it is easy to see why they have had a good deal of success regionally with this level of talent. The first four tracks are relentless in their intensity and almost constantly heavy, full of attitude and bravado yet very fun and jamming. "Mr. Bigshot" was a single that got some radio airplay at the time, a fun song with a call and response section. The title track approaches the 7-minute mark and changes up the sound...slow and sparse initially, building to dramatic heavier chorus sections with a pleading vocal, and ending with a pretty decent guitar solo that fades to strings. Beautiful track.

The band has recently released an ambitious full length in 2014 that is clearly aimed at upping the ante, but fans will want to go back and find this very respectable EP that put Maid Myriad on the map. The 2000s have been a fruitful time for great crossover artists in the United States and this is another example.
