3 stars To me this was a good ep for the Start of this epic band we know today. But this opiate is nothing like Aenema, Lateralus, or 10,000 days. This album is mostly metal but not your typical growling double bass medal you hear a lot. Maynard lyrics are very angry and his vocals are not as pure like in their future albums. The title track Opiate is the best track on the album. Some other good ones are Jerk-off which was recorded live, Sweat which features some great drumming by Danny, Hush is a good one too. If your only into the new TOOL material i don't know if you will be into this, but for die hard TOOL fans this is a must have in your collection. A good start for TOOL, future releases would show how there sound would evolve into something very different from Opiate. 3 stars
