5 stars This is my favourite Primus right here, believe it or not. Sure, I will, no doubt, agree that Frizzle Fry and Sailing the Seas of Cheese are overall better, more original and unique records, yet I still can not contain my utter love for the Brown Album.

On this record Primus goes raw and dirty, really dirty. Compared to the previous albums, the songs here are much more accessible and less experimental. But man, are they amazing! The writing is great, the songs are groovy and catchy as hell, and the musicianship is simply fantastic. Great energy, too. Also, some of my favourite Les' basslines are on this album (Fisticuffs, Golden Boy, Shake Hands (...), Bob's Party (...), Duchess (...), Kalamazoo, The Chastising (...)). I just love the dark and dirty atmosphere on this one. Thanks to the very dim and muddy mix the albums sounds raw and vintage. I think the mix is actually the main reason why people dislike this record so much, but for me it works just fantastic! I'm sure it wouldn't work with any other Primus album, but with this material, oh man, it's just something truly special. I'll love this album till I die, I tell ya!

Favourite tracks: The Return of Sathington Willoughby, Fisticuffs, Golden Boy, Over the Falls, Shake Hands With Beef, Bob's Party Time Lounge, Duchess and the Proverbial Mind Spread, Restin' Bones, Coddingtown, Kalamazoo, The Chastising of Renegade

Least favourite tracks: Puddin' Taine
