Tool is a band you hear about all the time, and being a teenager, I hear about it that much more. Why? Because it covers all the bases. Are you a dirty druggie? Your welcome in the Tool family! Are you a depressed grunge head? Tool is the band for you! Do like complex time signatures, 'melodic' percussion, and good 'ol fashioned progressive metal? Well, suprisingly... Tool is the band for you too. And, in fact, if your listening for the prog element then Lateralus is the Tool album for you as well (otherwise, some may suggest Aenima). This wonderfully 'grungy' album will have you hating life in no time!... not really, but it does seem to be quite a downer. The main reason for that being quite unexpected... it's the drums! No matter how crunchy the guitar is, no matter how much the singer screams and sounds like a disturbed 20 something year old, nothing gives this band it's distinct sound more than that drummer. It's a kind of slow to mid pulse that never stops. It sounds to me like a ritual is being performed at the top of an aztec shrine. In fact, it sort of is, since the drummer is apart of a kind of cult- drum religion that he uses to summon 'demons' when he is possesed while drumming. Well, whatever floats your boat i guess... either way, it's fresh and interesting to listen to.

Outstanding grungy music, by a band that like The Mars Volta are trying something new in the 21st century of progressive rock. Leaning toward masterpiece
