2 stars Three Neuron Kings is german metal band Disillusionīs debut EP. I didnīt forget to mention that Disillusion is a german band because this fact has great influence on their sound IMO.

The music is technical metal with both growling and clean vocals. Thereīs a very noticable accent which I canīt help find a bit comical at times, but other times itīs not that bad. The album consists of four songs and have a playing time of 21:27 minutes so you get something for your money here on Three Neuron Kings if you prefer quantity over quality because quite frankly Iīm not too impressed with the style Disillusion play on Three Neuron Kings.

As such the quality in the riffing is high, but the music is not very original and the singing doesnīt soothe my ears. The growling vocal isnīt agressive enough for me and the clean vocal isnīt beautiful enough. Itīs an aquired taste for sure, but personally I donīt like the vocals which leaves me with the music. The music is of high quality with tempo and time signature changes as weīre used to from tech metal bands, but itīs very german sounding to me which means the musicians never let loose but seem very pretentious and some of the song writing is pretty anthemic like the title track which is a feature I seldom like in metal. Some bands pull it off while others sound like fools. Disillusion unfortunately falls into the latter catagory.

The musicianship is good, but as said before I donīt like the vocals.

The production is allright without bringing too much to the music IMO though.

This is a debut but Disillusion must improve radically on their following releases to get good reviews from me. As I said the quality in the riffing is high but the songwriting and the german accent do me in. This one probably deserves 3 stars, but as I donīt like it much I will rate it 2.
