4 stars My original reaction to this album was that it was too-long, uninspired, and generally a boring attempt at doing a concept album. However, I gave it a few more chances and have discovered that 'Tyranny' is actually a pretty awesome album.

There are one or two moments when the album slows down a notch and doesn't seem so good, but overall a lot of the tracks on this album are Prog masterpieces. Songs such as 'War For Sale', 'Hope For Us?', 'Roads of Thunder' and 'Spoken Words' are all masterfully crafted pieces, and 'Mystery' is one of my favourite songs, a true gem for any Prog Metal fan.

The musicianship here is absolutely stunning, and easily on the same level as bands like Dream Theater and Symphony X. And the vocals are absolutely beautiful. Mike Baker has an amazing voice, and if you're a fan of James LaBrie (who makes a guest appearance on this album) then you'll like this.

At 73 minutes long, this album can at times drag on a bit. The story may not be as ambitious as 'Scenes from a Memory' or 'Operation: Mindcrime', but it is a good subject for some emotional and inspiring lyrics.

Well received by fans and critics alike, this album helps define Shadow Gallery as one of Progressive Metals greatest bands.
