4 stars 4.5: A masterpiece by Pink Floyd, it was released at 1977 being one of the most successful album of the band, and also the only one that put a single in the first place of the charts with Another brick in the wall Pt. 2. The concept of this album was almost entirely constructed by Roger Waters, and was presented to the band along with the first solo album from Waters to let the other members of the group decide which one they were going to make. This album began a lot of confrontation because of Roger's excessive and strict control about all the recording process. Musically, is almost perfect the musical composition is very well constructed and although it doesn't have a lot of the characteristic space prog style of the band, it does have prog elements, but what is more notable is the minimum contribution of Rick Wright to the keyboard section, in fact he was fired, and only used as a session musician for the album. Lyrically is where the album shines. It talks about a person who after having a lot of traumatic experiences like losing his father in a war, his wife cheating on him and other situations he decided to construct a metaphorical wall to avoid any contact with the world. They used the style of recording of the solo albums of Waters, I feel them repetitive in certain occasions, because he used the same chords and riff for several songs. At the end, I think, despite the issues commented, is a must have album for any prog collector.
