SIGNALS

Signals sees Rush embrace a slightly more commercial direction. The elaborate arrangements and fantasy themed lyrics are replaced by concise (though still complex) shorter songs and lyrics dealing with issues that are "closer to the heart" (couldnt resist). There is also a heavy emphasis on synths here and overall a far more dark and brooding atmosphere permeates the album. As usual the playing is immaculate if a little less visceral than previous outings. Highlights are the opener "Subdivisions", "The Analog Kid" and the excellent closer "Countdown". A worthy addition to any prog collection.
