2 stars After 12 albums in 8 years (the bands first 2 albums were live shows from 1987 and 1988, followed by 9 studio albums including the 1988 compilation album of unreleased tracks, 'Formaldehyde B-Sides') it was time to take a break and reassess the musical direction of the band'or if there was even going to be a band. Following this 2 year break from music, the band returned with their tenth album, 'My Lost Hazy Plans'.

The album opens with one of the bands best songs, 'Samhain'. A dark 5 and a half minute journey through musical and lyrical interpretations of Samhain. You can even hear Gordon Haskell making a couple short appearances if you listen carefully. The best part is the ending where the band plays alternating measures of 21/8 and 19/8 under the lead guitar which slowly fades away leaving some traditional Samhain influenced sound effects. The other song worth noting is the more rock than prog, 'Oh No, Here We Go Again'. It may be more rock than prog, but it does have a nice mellotron choir sound used in an unusual role in the background. Both songs are available on compilation albums, 'Samhain' is on 'The Witching Hour' where 'Oh No Here We Go Again' is on 'Anthology II 1993 - 2002'.

It appears that returning after a couple years the band relied on some cover tunes rather than original ones to get back into the swing of things. Due to that fact the album is out of print and it's best song is on an available compilation, I'll give it a rating of 2 stars as those already fans would likely be the only ones interested.
