2 stars 'Iron Maiden' was a good debut album, and whilst this may not improve upon that record, this is still a step in the right direction.

To me, this album generally sounds the same as the bands previous album, only the quality of the songs isn't as good. However, there are a few gems in here, such as 'Wrathchild', 'Murders in the Rue Morgue', 'Genghis Khan' and the title track. But sadly most of the songs just sound like leftovers from the band's first album.

In the big scheme of things, I feel both of Maiden's albums with Paul Di'Anno are quite underrated, and although this isn't as good as 'Iron Maiden' it is nowhere near being terrible. Although with that said I'd only recommend this album to pure Iron Maiden fans. Anyone looking for their first taste of the band can find much better examples elsewhere. Paul Di'Anno's rather limited vocal range also seems to have run its course here, but thankfully Maiden would address this issue with their next album.

Final verdict: Good album, but there is a LOT better out there.
