3 stars Every now and then there comes a time when you listen to an album with a gut-feeling telling you that you won't like it, only to be pleasantly surprised that in fact, your gut-feeling is not always right. This is one of those times.

Granted, Queensryche's debut EP is nowhere near a masterpiece, and isn't really worth looking out for unless you are a big fan of the band. I have a re-released album version of the EP which comes with ten live tracks. Overall it's a nice package. The original four songs that make up the EP nicely sets the tone for the direction their music is headed. Although the songs are nothing truly amazing, they still have that nostalgic feel to them, so any Queensryche fan will get excited at a gig if the band started playing 'Queen of the Reich' for example.

The musicianship and production are both fairly standard for 80's metal, but as said before, better things are on the horizon, so don't be put off if this is your first encounter with the band.

For any diehard Queensryche fans (if there is such a thing) this is a must. However, for the more casual fans I'd only recommend getting this if you can find it cheap.
