2 stars A Fine album by Metallica indeed! Sadly I can't give this album any higher than 2, I can't. I was willing to give this a 3 star just because it's a great album by a great metal band. However that's the problem, there isn't prog in here at all. The only Simi-Prog material on this album is the title track and that's just because of the unintentional odd time. Other than that and the fact this has an instrumental song on it, this has basically no prog at all. It's mostly 4/4, nothing is insanely hard to play, there are no wind instruments, the vocals aren't melodic and of high quality (for prog anyway), and for the most part this album sticks to the tradition metal structure. If this was metalarchives, this would get a 5/5, but this is ProgArchives. If it's not prog, on a prog website, it's not going to get a high rating from me. Opeth, BTDAM, Dream Theater, Symphony X, etc, etc, get 3 and higher because they are actually inspired by prog and have many prog elements. Do you honestly think Genesis or Yes, or King Crimson inspired these guys? They aren't, its not rocket science to see that this might be a good record, but it is nowhere near prog. If you want Prog Metal, listen to Opeth or Dream Theater, but not this.
