5 stars There is Prog in the Air!

Thank you PA and Classic Rock magazine presents PROG

What a band! I can't believe great new prog bands (that aren't metal) like Astra are out there and from San Diego none the less, just awesome. Hope many more to come too (I can feel it). Astra's sound is very retro (so much mellotron!) and very refreshing if you ask me. Pink Floyd, Genesis, Yes, KC, etc are all timeless bands as far as we're concerned, but it's really nice to hear something new with the same kind of style, sound and musical taste. This album is loaded with past prog influence, you can hear it at first listen, it's really cool actually. These guys aren't 70s prog rip offs, well maybe a little, but it doesn't matter because there are far too few great new bands like Astra out there.

The River Under is their best song, great vocals. Ouroboros sounds like Yes and Genesis put together, it's so awesome, I can't even tell you. When I was listening to the last song, Beyond To Slight The Maze, for more than a second I swear I thought I was listening to Pink Floyd's Echoes, so crazy, I love it.

I first heard of Astra in Classic Rock magazine presents PROG issue #2. The River Under, the fourth track on this album was included on the CD that came with the magazine. I only needed to hear it once; I bought the album the next day. I knew I was sure to like this band.

These guys are for sure on my radar now, looking forward to their next release as well as seeing them live, I cannot wait.

This kind of sound in 2009?? 5 Stars my friends, 5 Stars. Pick this album up!!
