2 stars Another obscure Zeuhl band plucked from Youtube, the artist description is bang on - Zao with the vocalist from Cos.

Balafon is quite a jazzy piece, made different by the use of a vibraphone, but the vocal scatting puts it into the zeuhl niche. Paris Dormant is a much more standard lounge jazz piece, not a lot to write home about. The more eclectic style comes back for the minimalist intro to Spa which creates a slightly suspenseful atmosphere combining the keys, synths and vibraphone before soft vocals arrive. Half way through it comes to life in similar style to the opening track with a classic jazz top-hat and bass with scatty vocals. Lune de Miel reminds me a lot of 'The Girl from Ipanema', closer to the style of track 2, until it jumps into a strangely electronic 80s style but without changing the vocals. Really not my cup of tea here. Finally the title track is a slower but more dystopian sounding track where the vocals are actually quite jarring at times.

For me its an album that almost works as something a bit different... but not quite.
