4 stars I am very happy, but at the same time surprised to be the first to review John McLaughlin's Live @ Belgrade. Especially because it is the first official dvd offer of a great jazz rock legend. According to small amount of ratings of JML solo projects, it seems his work does not attract special attention of PA visitors.

In few words: very good concert, John - excellent (can it be different), fourth dimension precise, powerful, energetic, an electric band playing modern dynamic fussy jazz that makes your spirit rough, edgy and ready for action. The repertoire comes from different sources, some from his brilliant 2008. Floating Point, some from his earlier studio efforts like Electric Dreams and (Third) Mahavishnu. It is totally electric and it is - good.

The technical aspect of the dvd is the weaker side of the project. Radio-Television of Serbia and Abstract Logix definitely didn't provide the best equipment and optimal recording conditions in order to produce audio and visual excellence. The 2.0 stereo is not bad but far from being desirable audio format for a dvd of John McLaughlin. The picture gets its sharpness mostly in closer frames while at the same time some parts were taken from an unusual, bird perspective. Obviously, not all of the cameras were put on the right place.

Generally: thank you John, do it again. Of course, with the technical improvements. 3.70.
