4 stars Every Waking Hour is a young progressive rock band from USA delivering their first release last year - 2009 named Writing on the wall. The band was formed in mid '00 by Tim Kestle and Paul Mc Lean, the only two official members of the band, the rest of the musicians on this album are invited . From the beggining I will say that this album is very good, very symphonic and with some excellent parts, specially the keyboards made by Paul McLean and the vocal arrangements coming from Jeff Burkett + Mc Lean on some parts sound very good. Quite complex for symphonic prog listners and maybe too mellow for rougher listners, Every Waking Hour combining in a great manner the instrumental passages , who are on every piece in big quantity with the vocal arrangements, who remind me of Threshold, but without that metalic and roughness in voice of Andrew "Mac" McDermott , but when he is a more calmer aproach this vocal parts are almost the same. The music as I said is complex, with nice and well arrangem passages, close to pewrfection on some pieces like on: Arrivederci or Spotlight, to lenghty tracks , almost 10 min each, here thsi band shines, not else, brilliant songwritting, top notch musicianship and inventiv keyboards interplays with the rest of the instruments. What else, if anyone from here like Spock's Beard, Yes at some point, Threshold in their softer moments, specially on vocals, this is the answer, symphonic prog of the highest calibre, a style that fits better in the descrption of their music then neo prog, that is for sure, they are much more elastic in aproch then any neo prog band fom today. I will give 4 stars, intrsting and well performed, nice cover art aswell.
