3 stars With such an eventful occurrence (40th Anniversary recording), and after an 11 year hiatus, one might expect either a totally different ELOY release or their definitive masterpiece. Neither surfaces in Visionary. That said, there is enough good going on here. Visionary certainly has a mainstream bent to it, which can be unsettling to those who revel in previous Space-Rock efforts of ELOY. Visionary is a poetic journey that begs the question: Is our society up to the challenges we face and can we find our way through the illusions to see who we really are? If you can relax, lay back and allow the lyrics to enter, you will discover that the music perfectly compliments the self-realizing journey.

Everything about Visionary is ELOY, the compositions, vocals, textures - everything - it will remind you of various composite parts of ELOY past. So while Visionary isn't masterfully epic or revolutionarily different, it is still ELOY, and for fans of this group you will likely find at least a few of these songs sufficient enough to add Visionary to your collection.
