3 stars "Holidays in Eden" is less proggy than the previous effort "Seasons End" but is also the first album written in total without the legacy of Fish. Is this the shape of things to come?

Mark Kelly gives some clues in the remastered CD booklet. and indicates that he is not happy with the final product which was recorded and mixed in only(!)10 weeks with insufficient time for keyboard experimentation. Certainly the choice of producer, Chris Neil, best known for his pop albums including Mike+Mechanics may not have helped. One thing noticeable is the keyboard work is not as adventurous as in previous releases, something which Mark Kelly puts down to Chris Neil.

Although there are some memorable tracks, and at least Steve Rothery gets a chance a few great guitar solos, overall this is closer to a conventional pop/rock album rather than prog.

Most reviewers in the Progarchives give "Holidays in Eden" 3 stars, which is about right on a prog scale rating but it would rate higher as a rock album.

3 Stars.
