THE QUIET ZONE / THE PLEASURE DOME

I refrain from writing reviews but a three-star grade for this masterpiece is tragic! I use the vinyl as a reference album for exotic phono cartridges, such is the quality of the recording itself. As much as I love 'Pawn Hearts' and 'Godbluff', this is the record that belongs in my personal pantheon of top ten albums of all time. But then I'm a strange bird, my favorite Pink Floyd album being 'Atom Heart Mother'... Nonetheless, be sure to give a careful audition to 'Last Frame' and the 'Sphynx/Chemical/Sphynx Returns' triad as these can be unusually rewarding in their unique way. The songwriting, expressive vocals, unusual musicianship and general production of this recording will stand as a pinnacle to those VDGG and Hammill fans who have had that one certain chord in their hearts struck, but oh so rarely!
