2 stars This is quite clearly a collectors release only. So I won't go into too many details, because quite simply I can only recommend this to completionists. While I love acoustic rock, and Porcupine Tree, the intimate setting here and personal nature of the performance doesn't really do anything for me. The performance itself is fine (even with Steven Wilson's somewhat humourous monologue during the build up to 'Normal'), and if anything, being able to listen to Wilson introduce each track is probably the highlight for my inner anorak. The restricted nature of the recording forces a different interpretation of each track, in most cases this means simplifying the existing compositions. Now I'm all for streamlining and all that... but it comes across as somewhat boring in this case. Sure, it would have been cool to be there in person, but for those listening, it's nothing you can't hear better on other PT recordings and live releases. I'll stress, this isn't a bad release, there are some quintessentially Porcupine Tree tones on offer here, but just don't expect the gleaming warmth one has come to associate with the Porcupine Tree moniker.
