4 stars Up and coming...

The debut EP from Italian post-rock band, Up There: The Clouds.

The Good: Apparently post-rock is a dying breed. If that is the case then these guys clearly didn't get the memo because this release sounds fresh and exciting. Whereas many post-rock/metal bands are characterised by minimalistic, repetitive instrumentation, these guys aren't afraid to throw in some intricate guitar or kickass drumming with their emotive soundscapes. Their overall style falls somewhere between Alcest and Mono and the release is just 22 minutes long, which makes it easily digestible

The Bad: Whilst the vocals aren't bad, I feel they just don't bring anything to the table and it would sound better as a fully instrumental EP.

The Verdict: Really cool release from a lesser known band.
