3 stars Hmmmm.......... Finns with depression.

Ingmar Bergman's movies was branded as the Nordic depressions where everything was gloomy and the sun had fled Scandinavia in panic. Nurkostam, although on the other side of Bottenviken, has released an album which also chases the sun away. Sort off......

This is their debut offering, an EP, no less. I do not detect much Neo-Prog here. It is obvious that Nurkostam is far more influenced by Van Der Graaf Generator, Anglagard and Radiohead than Genesis. I cannot hear any Genesis influences whatsoever here. But I can also hear a lot of post-rock here. Maybe Nurkostam is a post neo-prog band ? Yes, that seems like a good label... hahahaha !!! Van Der Graaf Generator, post rock and Radiohead has been mentioned. But Gazpacho is also a good reference here. In short, this is a pretty heavy album, depression wise.

The quality is good throughout this album. It is obvious the band is onto something here and is not without talents. This is a debut offering and I hope their two more recent album is a step up from this album, quality wise.
