MORE (OST)

MORE - the soundtrack album is a hidden Floyd gem. I haven't seen the movie so I won't review it as a soundtrack but merely as a genuine Floyd album. This is the major step away from the typical sixties psychedelia pop as heard on 'Piper' and the mediocre 'Saucerful'. With 'More' we hear the sounds and different styles that will be the typical Floyd sound until 'Dark Side': There is still a lot of psychedelia but now in a spacey and laid-back style, like 'Cirrus Minor','Main Theme' and especially 'Cymbaline' (my favorite). Also the Waters pastoral sound, is initiated here with 'Crying' and 'Green is the color'. The experimantal sound is continued with 'Quicksilver' and 'up the Khyber', and we hear rare examples of the Floyd playing hard-rock and blues. Overall the album has a very good atmosphere and continues in my rotation of records. Not a masterpiece but essential, at least for Floyd fans.
