4 stars The MZBT blueprint...

Wołanie o brzęk szkła was recorded in the twilight of SBB's golden era and certainly ranks amongst their best. The format is similar to 'Ze słowem biegnę do ciebie', featuring only two tracks, each clocking in at just under twenty minutes.

The title track is arguably the stringer of the two although it does take quite a while to get going. You have to sit through over six minutes of heavily reverbed guitar and mournful vocals before the first sweet solo kicks in. Then the pace slows almost to a halt with a harmonica driven spaghetti western breakdown. This builds slowly into an exciting finale where screaming keyboards and frenetic drumming combine for one of the most memorable passages SBB have ever written. The second track, Odejście opens with a loosely structured guitar sequence which vaguely reminds me of the "Discovery" section from 2112. Then we have some Floydian FX filling into a riff which more than vaguely reminds me of the signature dish served by "Baba O'Riley"!

Despite strong performances all round, Józef Skrzek's keyboards almost steal the show. The guitar remains interesting throughout, but does also seem to lack the air of bombasticity which is so prevalent on 'Memento Z Banalnym Tryptykiem'. The more I compare these two albums, the more noticeable the contribution of one-time-only band member, Slawomir Piwowar becomes.

The Verdict: A generally excellent album, but certain creative lulls cut it just short of a masterpiece.
