5 stars Well Eno left after the previous album, but that doesn't mean all the weirdness has gone! Actually Stranded does not sound much different than For Your Pleasure. A lot of webreviewers consider Stranded Roxy's best album. Rumors go that even Eno thinks that Stranded is the best Roxy Music made. Well is it? It sure took me several listens to start liking this album, but when I finally did I agreed this is really good. This is an album that has to be heard a few times, before you start realising how great it is. I also very much liked their debut album, but sometimes the weirdness was a bit over the top. Stranded is more varied, has more different moods and combines the best elements of the previous albums. It is more balanced. The weird sound collages of their debut album make a return, but now they sound more integrated. Just like on For Your Pleasure, the slower songs have the atmosphere of a jazzy nightclub, but while the "For Your Pleasure nightclub" was a decadent place to be, the "Stranded nightclub" has a lot more class. If you're interested in the most progressive period of Roxy Music, Stranded would be a great place to start!
