X IN SEARCH OF SPACE

This is my favorite Hawkwind album, with Space Ritual... Here they experiment what is to become their distinctive sound with a heavy, repetitive riff underlining strange lyrics and psychedelic sound effects. "You shouldn't do that" is one of the best songs produced by Hawkwind, with a nearly hypnotic feel in it. definitely the highlight.

But what makes this album so exciting is that it manages to flow very well from start to end, with a great unity in it, without being repetitive or boring. At least in my opinion, even if some people can find a two-chords riff repetitive... I mean, hey, listen to Do Re Mi Fa So Latido, their next album, every song is the same ! Here, you can feel hawkwind's distinctive sound and trademark but composition is still there, with the melodic, quasi folk "we took the wrong step years ago", alternating with HEAVY and weird rockers ("adjust me", "you know you're only dreaming").

And the cover is top-notch too. Easily a gem.
