3 stars "Gaudete" is one of the most beautiful and haunting numbers by Steeleye Span. God, Maddy Prior has some pipes! I love this song. This single release from 1972, which has the b-side of "The Holly and the Ivy", comes from what could be considered the classic age of the band, early to mid 1970's. I believe "Gaudete" was a Christmas release which makes since, as it is about rejoicing that Christ is born. The b-side is also a Christmas song adaptation. Not as good as "Gaudete" but not bad either. So, a classic and a rarity. 3 stars seems about fair, I think
