3 stars I have become a pretty big tool fan in the coming months and i must say there are stuff that i don't like about Tool. Like the certain stuff they believe in and their lyrics which can be a pile of crap. But aside of that i love their music they have a nice blend of the psychedelic and dynamic bassline of Floyd, the guitar soloing and riffage of King Crimson, and the context and structure of Dream Theater. That is how i felt when i bought both LATERALUS and 10,000 DAYS. and i was blown away by both however it was different when i finally bought AEnima. Its crazy cause i swore that i would never buy it because of the lyrics and what some of the songs meant. But i finally decided that hey just ignore what they mean and enjoy the music. and well even though AEnima is a very famous album to TOOL fans it made me LOVE and not like it so much at the same time. I mean sure there is some great classic songs but there is WAAAAAAY too much filler stuff in here and their are a couple of songs that were great at first but bits and pieces of other stuff in the song kinda ruined it for me. Well first you have the great heavy opener STINKFIST which is really good head banger. Then you have EULOGY which i thought would cause of the lyrics but i love it cause one thing the music is great and i barely hear what Maynard is talking about so its cool. Plus it is also one of the best proggy songs by Tool on this CD not to mention the scream at the end of the song is intense i mean gah i don't even know how long Maynard holds that note. H is a good build up track with some great bass and drum stuff going on. 46 & 2 was one of the reasons i got this CD cause this is my favorite TOOL song with its great dynamic bass line and awesome drum fill solo in the middle of the song i just love this track. HOOKER WITH A PENIS well i thought the title of it was bad but the music was sounding good at first till Maynard started singing i was like NAH. JIMMY seemed allright i dunno i really don't know how i feel about this song i kinda feel in between about this track. PU$ %*! is another fine proggy track on this CD has it has a nice buildup and a cool down section and oh its just good great work by the band. Then you have THIRD EYE which is another great TOOL epic despite the fact at times it makes me nervous with some sounds but hey after many listens i've come to love this song. Now the filler i just can't stand as their is like 5 to 6 different songs of just nonsense in i didn't listent to DIE EIER VON SATAN as it was just STUPID but thankfully in the other albums they didn't do too much of that. so basically this album for me to honest has a good side and a bad side to me alot of great music but alot of holes to be filled and they have been filling up. I guess part of it is my fault for not getting this album first but still i do think its a good album just not their best. 3 1/2 stars for me.
