5 stars please do not compare Anathema to anyone, even radiohead! i know that may be hardest to do with this album, but come on, they've been around long enough and evolved beyond labeling. (besides at the time of writing this review Weather Systems/ Were Here because Were Here prove Anathema is and will always be in the buisiness of evolving their sound every few albums)

this may be one of the most overlooked and underrated albums by Anathema, by any band of the genre even, and i think its a real shame. This is not a kind of technical band mate skill driven prog (not that this band even does that sort of thing.. but they are sooo subdued on this album!) Two of the highest rated albums by this band Judgement and Alternative 4 are the 'metal' ..ish albums and i believe that may be why this one is left the neglected child its so different from the rest of their stuff!

Experimental is what were looking at here, and in fact, one of those ahead of its time kind of albums. It is driven by a perfect balance of length and cohesion between songs, the album as a whole is even greater than the sum of its parts! Too often i must state the opposite with other albums ive reviewed.

Pacing. at 55 minutes i couldnt ask for a more perfect length, these are not epic songs.. they are carefully constructed pieces and by the way. NO weak one in the bunch.

Longevity. Ive owned it 2 years, still enjoy it.. even all the way through beginning to end mind you. (Dream Theater couldnt hold my attention through a whole album anymore if they actually tried!)

If you've never heard Anathema before.. yah go listen to Judgement. Alternative 4.. then when you've gotten that out of your system and fallen for Anathema open your heart to this one.

Masterpiece. and underappreciated at that.
