3 stars A somewhat overlooked band in the post-rock scene, Explosions In The Sky's second instrumental album TWTTTSD,TWTTTSLF (yes that's an abbreviation) is full of beautifully dramatic brooding songs created by the band's fantastic twin guitar work. Now this is not twin guitar in the sense of Wishbone Ash or Thin Lizzy, Rayani and Smith create beautiful textures and moods with their guitars and avoid anything that resembles rocking out. However, this record contains a great deal of power and energy with 6 tracks that start off slowly and silently then begin to bubble, boil and eventually spill over exploding with a euphoric energy. "From silence to violence" they say and they're right.

The songs here have the small flaw of sounding alike and seemingly running together as the record plays through. The silence, crescendo, repeat formula runs through the whole album and doesn't suprise you all too much. But honestly the music on this album is secondary to the emotions it makes you feel. Focus on what the album is doing to you rather than what's going on in the album.
