3 stars In mid-00's Incandescent Sky welcome another member, this time it was bassist Mike Marando. This fact alone was enough for Mehool Patel to concentrate in his work on Chapman stick and loops. Now as a quintet, the group entered The Carpet Box Studios in East Providence to record its third indepedent release ''Paths and Angles'', released in 2005.

Release by release, the sound of Incandescent Sky becomes even more conveincing: richer, more powerful and really spacecy.Their all instrumental offerings become a nice amalgam of Space Progressive Rock with touches of Electronic Music, very much in the vein of QUANTUM FANTAY.The influences by PORCUPINE TREE, OZRIC TENTACLES and RUSH are apparent, not giving the group a much needed identity, but the music is definitely rewarding despite a couple of dissapointing tracks.Intense sonic soundscapes with a powerful rockin' content, based on either furious or more psychedelic grooves, led by the energy of Don Sullivan's guitars, the dominant rhythm section of Marando and Orsi and the good collaboration between Patel's sound effects and John MacNeill's floating synthesizers, which at moments have a Neo Prog feel. The style is always very rich with a full band collaboration.Guitar moves range from psychedelic grooves to dynamic riffs, the keyboards alternate between lighter background textures to orchestral, spacey movements and the constant use of piano adds an ever romantic flavor.A couple of more complex ideas even recall the demanding sound of KING CRIMSON with Sullivan delivering his FRIPP-ian more experimental guitar forms.

Intense Psych/Space/Progressive Rock with plenty of nice ideas.Time seems to be a friend for this US act, which becomes more mature with its release.Recommended.
