2 stars This album was written while Gabriel was going through the trauma of a broken relationship after his divorce so the emotional content here would be high.

"Come talk to Me" - track about Peter Gabriel's difficulty at the time in communicating with his daughter. The beginning features a bagpipe to punctuate the emotiveness of the track.

"Love to be Loved" - about needing somebody and being needed. A nice laid back track. The track makes me think of some of Sade's work in the bass and rythm.

"Blood of Eden" - very sad track springing from Gabriel's emotions at the time.

"Steam" - The "Sledgehammer" of this album. An upbeat number after the previous moody, slower ones.

"Only Us" - Emotional lyrics. This track is a little spaced out for my taste.

"Washing of the Water" - A broken heart and a broken soul. Very soft emotional track.

"Digging in the Dirt" - A little more upbeat than much of the album other than for "Steam" thus far. Going through therapy relating to a broken serious relationship.

"Fourteen Black Paintings" - Inspired by fourteen paintings by done by Rothko that Gabriel saw in a chapel. Sounds very similar to the beginning of "In the Air Tonight" by Collins without the fireworks.

"Kiss that Frog" - This track could be bawdy but I'm not going into that orally - heh heh. Not a bad radio friendly track.

"Secret World" - Another very emotive track.

I can't say that I like this album very much as it is too laid back and angst laden for my tastes. There are good tracks but nothing that makes me want to dance with joy at discovering an album that I love. To my viewpoint this album is only for fans of Gabriel and collectors of his work.
