3 stars Octopus is one of Gentle Giant's finest albums. All classic Giant elements are present, and in abundance. Musically, this is arguably one of the most complex albums made. "Knots" is a classic Giant track, highly revered. It is the perfect track to show what Gentle Giant is about. But on this album, Gentle Giant also showed they're softer side with the beautiful (a word rarely used with Gentle Giant) "Think of Me with Kindness". The piano and brass on this track really just get you. I think "River" (which has cool percussion) should have been bumped up and the album should have ended with "Think of Me", becaue it is so good. "A Dog's Life" has very interesting guitar, and the boys in the band is a nice, but repedative, instrumental song. All the other tracks aren't overly good, though.
