1 stars "Maanens Natt" ("Night of the Moon") is the debut demo cassette tape by Norwegian black metal act Manes. The demo has since itīs initial release in 1993 been re- released a couple of times in limited editions on both CD and LP. The tracks from the demo are also available on the "Svarte Skoger (2006)" (Black Forests") compilation. Manes were at this point a two- piece act featuring Sargatanas who handled the vocals while Cernunnus played all instruments.

The music on "Maanens Natt" is old school Norwegian black metal. Raspy vocals, blasting drums and noisy guitars. The production is extremely lo-fi and my guess is that it will only be the really hardcore old school black metal fans who will be able to appreciate the sound quality. Itīs hard to evalutate the quality of the songwriting when the sound is as lo-fi and noisy as itīs the case here but as some of the tracks from "Maanens Natt" actually made it unto the debut album by the band "Under ein Blodraud Maane (1999)" there must have been some kind of quality going on under the noisy mud because the music on "Under ein Blodraud Maane" is good quality black metal IMO.

"Maanens Natt" is a collectorīs item and even for collectors there might not be enough value to spend time and money tracking this one down. I canīt give more than a 1 star (20%) rating. This is too amaturish for me to appreciate or recommend.
