4 stars "EQUINOX" is a band from PANAMA and is an excelent band. This is their first and best cd. The sound and production are very clear. The playing is first rate. A very very good progresive record with some of the songs being very melodic (and pop). You can hear influences of YES and SANTANA. Maybe even Styx... This band is not easy to categorize because it blends sounds and influences to create their own. They have played with BANCO, PREMIATA FORNERIA MARCONI & CAST among others.

3 stars Well, if you ever want to hear a model example of a neo progressive album this debut by Equinox might be an excellent pick. This is what obvious neo sounds like. Melodic songs, slightly emotional vocals, lots of guitar solos and keyboard displays. Even the fact the vocals aren't quite up par is somewhat typical for this subgenre. I mean, Marco Linares tries very hard to be a fine vocalist but it's just not there most of the time.

And then we come to another famous feature of neo prog: the compositions and instrumental handling are much better, as is so often the case. Very nice long/extended instrumental solos are significant with this band, especially on the longer tracks. And they please me a lot I can tell you.

They even make me doubt pretty hard to give four stars ultimately but I'm afraid that's just a little bit too much. I'd say the two longest songs are definitely worthy of 4 stars but the other tracks combined with the flaws this band and album have are just not impressive enough for this high score. I think 3 stars is more adequate added with the remark it's actually 3,4.
