3 stars Endless BJH compilations

No relation (unfortunately) to the excellent final track on Yes' "Talk" album, "Endless dream" is a collection of live and alternative versions of tracks by BJH.

The selected tracks by no means represent the best of BJH, but the objective here appears to have been to pull together material which may be of interest to BJH completionists, rather than casual listeners. That said, the differences between the original tracks and those included here are generally insignificant, the single versions for example usually simply being edits.

In general, the definitive versions of the tracks here (with the possible exception of "Medicine man" which is transformed when performed live), are the ones which appeared on the original studio albums. Musically, this album is good, but far from essential.

3 stars Endless Dream is a compilation of alternative versions of some BJH favourites, put together with the assistance of the fan club. Several of these, the 'single' versions, belong to the 'completists only' category as they are merely edits cut from familar sources. However, there are a couple or four gems: opening track Child Of The Universe was specially recorded in 1975 for an American single that was never released; Medicine Man is the live version originally issued as a 7" EP and still divided into two parts because it would not fit onto a single side of the EP; Męstoso - A Hymn In The Roof Of The World was Woolly's grand orchestrated statement omitted from the 1974 album Everyone Is Everybody Else; and, John Lennon's Guitar is a superior live version of this later song. These four songs make this a useful release, though no longer essential as these tracks have been incorporated onto relevant studio album remasters.
