Review by Tarcisio Moura
PROG REVIEWER
3 stars The Carpet Crawlers is one of Genesis best compositions (yes, the title is wrong on that cover), a real classic in an album that was much overrated in my opinion. It really shines where most of the album drags. The b side was the albums title track, The Lamb Lies On Broadway, another fine song. Although I still can´t really dig the double album that much, I must agree it has a fair amount of good material that seemed to be ruined by the poor production (Steve Hackett´s re-recording of some of the tracks of the album in his Genesis Revised release seems to justify that opinion since those tunes are way better than the original ones. The new versions showing some fine sound landscapes that were not present on the 1974 release. Probably they were buried in the mix). Anyway, Carpet Crawlers and The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway are some of the exceptions (the others are In The Cage and Counting Out Time) and I think this single has very well chosen tracks. Again I´m really sorry it does not include any new or rare stuff to make it worth for non completionists and collectors. So, if you have the album (and you probably do), there´s no reason why to try to find this single other than historical and collectible ones.

Rating: 3 stars for the high quality of the material. But really not essential, unless you are a hardcore fan who has to have anything they´ve released.
