2 stars In April 1973 INDEXI won the first prize at the biggest pop festival in Yugoslavia - "Vas Slager Sezone" - with the song "Predaj se srce" ("Surrender, My Heart"). At this time Djordje Novkovic was again the keyboardist and he would later act as a prominent pop arranger/composer in the country. This song is pure pop product, meant for mass audience and indeed, this record was the first "gold single" they charted. However, this pop "purity" is broken by a strange Kovacevic's solo on slide guitar. B side is much better with "Budi kao more" ("You Are Like The Sea"), a song with heavy organ and guitar solos but still very accessible. This was the last of the series of singles issued by Jugoton, which would soon appear collected on the first official LP release, the legendary pink cover "Indexi" in 1974. This period was actually the end of the first "progressive phase" of INDEXI's career. Encouraged by commercial success, they chose to follow the pop/schlager direction for the most of the second half of the 1970s, with one notable but sudden "prog return" in 1978 when they made their magnum opus "Modra rijeka". Only 2 stars because this single announced the break with their prog adventures and embracing the light pop MOR sound.
