Envinity biography
ENVINITY is an American Progressive/ goth metal act formed in 2002 in Denver, Colorado. The band consists of Niko on vocals, drums, keyboards/synths and programming, John on rhythm, lead and clean guitars, Eric on drums and Bryan on bass. The band was started by main songwriter Niko under the ENVY monicker. The debut full-length studio album "Sweet Painful Reality" and the second full-length studio album "Empyreal Progeny" were respectively released in 2002 and 2004 under the ENVY monicker. The band changed their name to ENVINITY before releasing their third full-length studio album "Moira“s Lake" in October 2009. It was not until the release of "Moira“s Lake" that the band had a real drummer and bassist in the lineup. The drums are played by Niko on the first two albums and the bass duties were handled by the guitarists in the band. "Moira“s Lake" is a dark concept album involving an unsolved murdercase. The album is available for free download ( donations are possible) on the band“s official website.

ENVINITY are influenced by both goth and dark metal acts like DANZIG, TYPE O NEGATIVE and LACUNA COIL as well as progressive metal acts such as DREAM THEATER and PAIN OF SALVATION. Their sound can be described as a mix of those influences.

ENVINITY“s inclusion in the Prog Archives database was approved by the Progressive Metal Team.

Moira“s Lake

Review by toroddfuglesteg

3 stars First of all, it is a free download and it is a highly recommended download too.

The music here is somewhere between Danzig, Queensryche and Dream Theater. You can split the influences three ways, thirty three percent to each of these bands. This album deals with unsolved murders and it has a dark undertone. The first thing that hit me was it's similarity with the classic TV series Twin Peaks. The same ambience is running through the whole Moira's Lake album. Horror, in other words. The darkened vocals also gives this album the cult movie feeling too. I am not that much into movies though, but I am sure those of you who loves dark movies may find this album to your taste. Well, I am pretty sure of it so start the download now.

The music is dark, brooding and sinister at places. This is at times not a metal album though. Yes, it has some hard chugging guitar riffs. But it is mainly dominated by an almost eclectic sound. I guess crossover is the best genre at most of this album. I also get Depeche Mode vibes here too. Then again, the Dream Theater riffs comes in and you also get a lot of Queensryche feelings from their Operation Mindcrime era. The sound is based on both guitars, tangents, the dark and light vocals of Niko and some sound samples.

The quality is very good throughout. My main gripes is the lack of some really great tunes throughout this album. The ones that makes the listener really put a big circle around the name of Envinity. Then again, there is not a single weak track on this album. The sound is good too and this makes this an excellent free download and a good, worthwhile purchase if I had to fork out $ 15 for it.
