Akribi biography
AKRIBI (taken from the Greek term which means accuracy and attention to detail) is a progressive metal band from Göteborg, Sweden. The origins of the band go back to 2003, when David LIDELL (guitars) and Andreas TIBERTO (keyboards) began playing together. They were joined by Alexander SOFRONIOU (aka Alexander BRINGSONIOU) on bass and eventually in 2006 by André BERNTSSON on guitars. The rhythm section at the time was supplemented with a drummer that Alexander knew from before, but mostly the band relied on Andreas' drum machine. After having auditioned many drummers and singers for almost a year, Tony MCWILLIAMS (drums) and Elina TERVONEN (vocals) were invited to join.

In August 2007 AKRIBI was a full 6-piece band for the first time. Their influences were stated as DREAM THEATER, DEEP PURPLE, MESHUGGAH, CIRCUS MAXIMUS, DEATH, IRON MAIDEN, PAIN, WEATHER REPORT, SYMPHONY X, PAIN OF SALVATION and THE GATHERING...to name but a few! The band then set about recording a 4-track demo mini-album called "The Sum of it All". In the spring of 2008, vocalist Elina left the band, and later that year she formed a new band (LADY MOURNING) with her husband Marko TERVONEN (guitars) from THE CROWN to which TIBERTO and BRINGSONIOU also contribute alongside their AKRIBI duties.

After almost six months of searching, with numerous applicants and around 20 auditions, Jessica ĹHMAN was announced as the new lead singer in October 2008, and the nucleus of the current band line up was finalized. However, the unavailability of the drummer meant that some of the rehearsal sessions of the new line up had to be done (as in the very early days) with a drum machine. Other drummers used by the band include Samir ALIAS, and most recently Simon JAKOBSSON, but as of autumn 2011 there is still no permanent drummer in place.

The band's official debut album "Black Morning Sun" was released on Jymden Music at the end of July 2011, and a second EP is already recorded and scheduled for release in October 2011. The band's powerful sound has been linked to AYREON, TO-MERA, DREAM THEATE...

3 stars Swedish band AKRIBI was formed back in 2006, and has honed their craft until 2011, when they issued their debut album "Black Morning Sun". And as many other artists choose to do these days the band opted to release this production themselves rather than signing with a label.

Pleasant, accessible progressive metal incorporating a fair few details from the symphonic metal realm is what Akribi has to offer on their debut album "Black Morning Sun". A well made production in general, perhaps lacking ever so slightly in the adventurous department, but otherwise a fine effort. The vocals of Jessica Aahman won't hold universal appeal though, but for those who like her vocal approach and generally tend to enjoy music of this kind, this CD will be a fine addition to their music collections.

Thanks to Rune2000 for the artist addition.
