Igor Len biography
Igor Len is a well established and influential musician from Russia. After his academic years as a classically trained piano player (graduated from the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservator) he consistently distinguished his music between various approaches which combine sensually emotive cinematic ambiences for abstract orchestration, soundscaping impressionism to innovative poptronics synth excursions. Igor Len started to develop his own musical identity during the 80s and received a recognition thanks to numerous concerts given all around Europe. In 1989, a record company Melodia Records released his 1st solo album entitled HERE. This has been a huge commercial success and remains a milestone in the field of soundtracky deep electronic ambient. Later on he released theatrically sonic ambiences and atmospheres for various films and modern jazz spacey ambient experiences in solo (Electric world, 1998...)

The main difference between the Berlin electronic school and its later USA/Bay Area counterpart relies on its conceptual approach. Some kind of machine vs man corresponding to the Berlin�s school its mechanical side & the Bay Area the human one (in a manner of speaking of course). From this USA offspring non-classical electronic music flourished into different stylings like New Age, Nuevas Musicas, Sacred Music, Ambient etc.

Igor Len�s HERE, 1989, is inclined towards the Bay Area concept. A 6 track project which slowly builds some dreamy and well crafted atmospheres on each track and the same displays some enticing and quiet unique Sacred Music like chorals & Berlin�s school electronic pulse like passages.

Being my first encounter with his music, if anything, it shows an electronic musician with enough tools to deliver some very inspired moments which as such show a very promising future and strongly hints what could turn out to be his own possible musical idiom and maybe also in the future a bit less of his favored influences (which of course include Mr. Eno).

The album evolutes through each track towards more personal and creative compositions, so I can say that it grows from good to very good, therefore the best tracks are precisely its last two and of these the last is this album�s jewel.

Worth to check it out but it is up to you to keep it or forget.

As for me, it makes me wonder how Igor Len sounds today and probably look for it. But in the meantime this one gets ***3.5 PA stars.
